New Business

Discussion about proposal to host a quarterly round table with law enforcement and MADD to begin to
build a forum where everyone involved with DUI in the community would sit at the same table quarterly.  Jenna has been discussing this option with Susan Bianchini of MADD.  Marty Kent from Bozeman PD has indicated interest.

Katie expressed concern that we be sure to have the varying missions of  the two organizations – DUI  Task Force and MADD – clear so that       attendees know what each of us do.  Jenna suggested each organization could read its mission at the meeting.  Katie suggested a way of clarifying the distinction between organizations  would be to read what projects each has funded over the past year.  We want them to understand that we can fund projects, and that we are a county funded agency.

The group agreed to have further discussion on this idea in November, to invite representatives from MADD to attend that meeting, and to aim toward having our first roundtable in January.

Jenna talked with Judge Wyckman about having an informal luncheon like we did with Judge Seel to discuss DUI in the county.  Task Force members agreed it would be good to get going on organizing that after the upcoming election when its clear who the new judges will be.

Bob Larson reported on Midnight Mania.

Tania Mittleider reported on Cat Cab.  She says ASMSU is in the process of updating the Cat Cab website
and checking to see if they can place a link on the MSU home page.  They will begin fund raising in November. Jenna asked if it made sense to raise the price.  Katie said that it seemed more likely people would pay for someone else to have a ride if it stays at $1. Matt asked if our current funding level is adequate, if we should be budgeting more or less for Cat Cab.      Katie and Matt wondered if it would make sense to print coupons for rides that the bars could use to call students a cab.
Tania said she would research these questions

Marketing
Jenna showed Halloween posters that will be distributed by Community Service volunteers
Bob commended the marketing committee on the work they’ve done

Statewide DUI Task Force meeting
Jenna said she and Stephen attended the statewide DUI Task Force meeting. We’re the only Task Force present who is not strongly focusing on underage drinking.  The upside of that is that Jim Lynch, head of MDOT, reminded all Task Forces that DUI is about adults too

Jenna presented on the Swimming Upstream Awards – the presentation was well-received and three Task Forces have indicated interest in starting their own awards ceremonies, using the same theme

Jenna shared BAC cards the Task Force designed.  Katie asked to see those cards.

Christina also attended the meeting and she and Jenna told Matt about the Visual Trial presentation from the meeting.  Jenna said she would connect Matt with the person from Missoula PD who made that presentation

Christina brought two DVDs of the Every 15 Minute program that the Task Force helped to fund.  She gave one to Bob and one to Jenna for the Task Force “library.  Katie borrowed the Task Force DVD

Christina was encouraged to become a Task Force member.  Jenna will send her a membership application

Denise Knox introduced herself.  She’s a nursing student at MSU, interested in DUI. She needed to attend a community meeting as part of a class requirement to study how groups interact.

Finances
Jenna and Katie met to discuss finances and how to create useable financial reports for each meeting

At the next meting, the Task Force will discuss whether to increase the budget for fiscal 2007 since there is such a large reserve in the Task Force account.

The meeting as adjourned at 6:50 PM.
